Being fair, I've been through a lot of bad things.
But today was definitely one of the worst.
First, I got a beating from the butcher.
Then, Mrs. Turbeldy sold me to Bevin Conner, a nobleman from the kingdom of Carthya.
After all I'd done for her.
Then again, she never really liked me.
She only kept me at the orphanage because I stole stuff for her once in a while.
When I tried escaping, I was tripped and knocked unconscious by Conner's henchmen, Mott and Cregan.

After waking up, I found myself tied in a wagon with two other boys- Roden and Latamer.
We picked up another boy on the way to wherever we were going- Tobias.
All of us had similarities in appearance.
Latamer looked sickly, Roden was larger and tanned, and Tobias was tall and thin, and had stringy hair.
I knew Tobias.
I had stayed at the orphanage he was from for a short time.
He was the one who was given special privileges because he was educated.
Anyway, I was just trying to escape when Cregan caught me.
I'm good with knots, and since the rope they had tied me up with was so thick, I was able to slip it off.
If it hadn't been for Roden, I would have escaped.
Instead, I was stuck.

When we made camp, I wasn't allowed out of the wagon- I could only hand things to the others while they set everything up.
After calling us over to talk, Conner offered to let anyone who wanted to leave go.
I really wanted to leave, but a nagging feeling told me to stay put.
Latamer said he'd leave, and Conner said that he was free to go- Cregan would even drive him to the nearest town in the wagon.
As Latamer started walking toward the wagon, I knew something was wrong.
Mott motioned Latamer toward the wagon, but Cregan was nowhere in sight.
That's when it hit me.
I stood up and yelled, "Latamer, stop!" but it was too late.
Cregan's arrow pierced his chest, and he fell down with a yelp, dead.

I tackled Cregan, but Mott joined in the fight, and together they overpowered me.
Conner told me I had a a choice to make.
"Now you can get up and rejoin the other boys, or you can take the wagon ride with Latamer," he said.
You can understand which choice I made.
The thought that Conner had baited Latamer into leaving just to teach us a lesson nauseated me.
I felt numb.
After eating a dinner that we had no appetite for, Conner told us his part of his plan.
I had had a feeling that what Conner was planning was bad, but I hadn't imagined it was this bad.

Conner wasn't just planning a revolution.
He was planning on using us to overthrow the kingdom.
